Doll's House for ELLE India
This has to be one of the most fun projects we we’ve been asked to do – make a fantasy Safomasi Dolls House for ELLE India! Seriously, what a dream – we had free reign to come up with whatever we wanted, so of course being a Safomasi house, it had to be full of pattern and colour. We themed each room around our different collections and played with the size of the prints, scaling them down to make wallpaper and pairing them with the full scale fabrics. We had fun with the roof too – creating a glitter pool and cute lounge area with circular ‘mithai’ cushions.
Our tropical Kerala-inspired Alleppey collection themed the ground floor with the Coconut Palm Pickers pattern in both its blue and white versions as wallpaper. We love the hot pink sofa paired with mini ‘Camel Traders’ cushions and the rag rug made from our blue bird print fabric. The rug and the sofa (along with the side table in the living room and lamp in one of the bedrooms) was the work of Emilia from The Brewhouse, our multi-talented friend who helped out for a day of crafting!
We even designed letter tiles to spell ‘Safomasi’ on the floor in the kitchen. It’s all in the details!
One bedroom took a bold monochrome Japanese-inspired style with black and white ‘Zen Onsen Garden’ walls and bedding, with characters from our Shibuya cushion framed as artwork. We added texture, layering black jute stitched with a simple cross pattern and a fluffy faux fur rug:
The second bedroom had a nautical theme, with our ‘Regatta’ boat design scaled down as wallpaper and combined with ‘Ferry Flag’ fabric. Imagining all the details we could come up with was so much fun – the painting on the wall is a photograph of a cross stitched landscape, created by one of Sarah’s family members:
Our favourite spot is on the roof! If only we could hang out on ‘Estuary Walk’ print sun loungers by the glitter pool in real life…
Or in the mithai cushion lounge…
Thanks to ELLE India for giving us the excuse to take over the studio and create chaos with foam board and fabric scraps and glitter and glue!
