Fashion Revolution Week 2019
On April 24th 2013, 1,134 people died and many more injured when an eight story garment factory named Rana Plaza collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This disaster prompted the launch of The Fashion Revolution, a global movement seeking to encourage change and a more ethical and sustainable future for the fashion and textile industries.
Fashion Revolution Week is an annual campaign in the week of the anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse. It encourages consumers to ask #whomademyclothes, and brands and producers to respond with the hashtag #imadeyourclothes to demonstrate transparency in their supply chain.
Meet the Safomasi Team
We’re really proud of the team in our studio in Chirag Delhi, New Delhi. We’ve learnt and grown together – Sanjay, Shiv Shankar and Suresh were even witnesses at our court marriage last year!
Sanjay
Sanjay is Safomasi’s diligent production manager. He works closely with our screen printing workshop, making sure the colours match right and sources everything from zips to pom poms. If you’re a customer in Delhi he might have delivered your products too! Originally from Bihar, he lives in Delhi with his wife and 4 children.
Shiv Shankar
Shiv Shankar (a.k.a Masterji) is our head tailor and first employee, working with us since 2014. Very creative with loads of ideas, his favourite thing is to experiment and make new products. From an up-cycled pouffe made from scrap fabric to a water filter cover and animal shaped pillows, he’s always surprising us! Also from Bihar, he lives in Delhi with his wife and 2 children.
Suresh
Suresh has been a tailor with Safomasi since 2015. Very methodical and conscientious, we also work closely with his brother Dharambir, who is the point of contact for artisans who hand quilt our quilts from their homes. Suresh is from Uttar Pradesh and lives in Delhi with his wife and 2 children.
Jatin
Jatin is in charge of keeping the Safomasi studio running smoothly. With an amazing memory and keen eye for detail his domain is quality control and packing. Originally from West Bengal, he lives in Delhi in a house share with friends.
You might have noticed a fifth team member, Bipul sitting down in the front of our team photo. Since it was taken in December 2018, Bipul moved from Delhi to Gurgaon (if you know the commute you’ll wish it on no-one!) so left for a job close to home. We’re happy to have Sonu, a tailor who worked with us in 2016 back to re-join the team.
Meet our Screen Printers
Screen printed fabrics are Safomasi’s speciality, so the artisans who print our designs are a super important part of the process. We’ve been working with the same family run screen printing workshop for the last 6 years. Based in Noida, they’re just under an hour’s drive from our studio in Chirag Delhi. Meet the the artisans who hand screen printed the fabrics in our Indian Ocean Collection.
